MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe that each student needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to develop and become mature in all aspects. As an educator it is my desire to help them meet their optimum potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe and invites a sharing of ideas. To provide a persuade environment or conducive classroom, I believe teacher should act as facilitator to guide the lesson and at the same time let students’ curiosity to direct the learning.

I believe that as a educator we need to provide access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information for students. As a guide in our own lesson, let the students search for knowledge and find answers to their questions. For students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in certain situations. Providing students’ to hands-on activities by giving time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson creates an opportunity for individual to discover and construct the knowledge itself. This is related to the Piaget’s constructivist learning practice.

I also believe that through open sharing of ideas it can help students to develop a deepest love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment. When the voice of each student is heard, and environment evolves where students feel free to express themselves, the students can feel they are much appreciate by their teacher. Class meetings are one way to encourage such environment. I believe students have greater respect for their teachers, their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and sure of what is expected of them.

For me, teaching provides an opportunity for long-life learning and growth. I hope to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. I believe that I owe it to my students, as well as the community, to bring consistency, diligence, and warmth to my job in the hope that I can ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in the children as well. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

ABOUT e-PORTFOLIO

An electronic portfolio, also known as an e-portfolio or digital portfolio, is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the Web (also called Webfolio). Such electronic evidence may include inputted text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog entries, and hyperlinks. E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the user's abilities and platforms for self-expression, and, if they are online, they can be maintained dynamically over time. Some e-portfolio applications permit varying degrees of audience access, so the same portfolio might be used for multiple purposes.

An e-portfolio can be seen as a type of learning record that provides actual evidence of achievement. Learning records are closely related to the Learning Plan, an emerging tool that is being used to manage learning by individuals, teams, communities of interests, and organizations. To the extent that a Personal Learning Environment captures and displays a learning record, it also might be understood to be an electronic portfolio.

Students have been taught to create digital identities using presentation software or tools to create web pages. Such technologies, however, are not easily utilized by children or elderly people who lack web authoring skills or a hosted site. More recently the use of virtual learning environments (VLEs) in schools and universities has led to an increased activity in the creation of e-portfolios for a variety of reasons. Most of these e-portfolios, however, are retained within the VLE and are not easily accessed outside the VLE. This results in problems of exporting data and related interoperability issues. An alternative approach is to use a system externally hosted to any institution. This permits transition through the various stages of education and employments and even into retirement.

E-portfolios, like traditional portfolio, can facilitate students' reflection on their own learning, leading to more awareness of learning strategies and needs. Results of a comparative research between paper based portfolios and electronic portfolios in the same setting, suggest use of an electronic portfolio leads to better learning outcomes.

Thanks to UPSI and my lecturer because they gave me a chance to develop my ICT skill by taking this course. E-portfolio is very important nowadays because we can manage and store all our work and data. During develop my e-portfolio, I've facing a lot of difficulties because this is my first time using blogger. But by support given by lecturer and friends (my group), at last I can developed my e-portfolio myself.

jan 27 - Today i 've been upload photo to my e-portfolio.. at the beginning i cannot upload it because the server is to slow... i'll keep trying and finally i'll get it... it's show that if we keep try and never give up we'll achieve what we're target in our life.

jan 31 - Mr Shahran take over the class to teach as more on editing using picasa software. i very enjoyed and excited editing my own photo. i think i already master in picasa and ready to develop my e-portfolio by adding movie or pic on my e-portfolio.

feb 4 - 6 – I had changed my e-portfolio template in the last there days. During this time, I had learned html code by explored it myself and editing my e-portfolio html code. I’m very satisfied with my new template of my e-portfolio right now. I still trying to explore more on html code and updating my files into my e-portfolio

feb 8 - Today I've upload more powerpoint presentation to my e-portfolio into my artifacts. Hopefully all these powerpoint can be use by other for thier references...

mac 7 - Its a long time not update my e-portfolio... today i'm try to change my new template but as what i expected it make me in trouble because i need to set up all my link file again... i'm very frustrated because the connection is so slow ... but finally i manage to finish it .. alhamdullilah... .to be continue

As an educator or teacher, we cannot run to write a lesson plan everyday. Lesson plan is a guide for our lesson. There a lot of thing we can write in lesson plan such as in our overview lesson (date, time, class, learning objectives, thinking skills, value and etc...) and 5-phase Needams (Induction set, eliciting an ideas, restructuring an ideas, application of an ideas and closure). Some of us sometime have a time to do some project to make sure that we always improve ourselves. We need to be creative and innovative.
